Thomas Jolly's artistic direction of the opening ceremony, while aiming for inclusivity, left me unsettled. The decision to prominently feature certain controversial aspects of the LGBTQ+ community felt sensational rather than celebratory, overshadowing more universally recognised symbols of excellence and unity.
This focus seemed out of place for an event that was supposed to represent global harmony and led to concerns about the over-sexualisation of modern culture being presented on a world stage.
The execution of Marie Antoinette's shock value seemed to take precedence over a balanced and respectful representation of diversity, and the Bacchus party was clearly a negative and disrespectful nod to da Vinci's magnificent Last Supper.

Donald Trump apparently made the Republican platform exactly what he wanted it to be, and there are aspects to its proposals that all of us should realize.
One is his plan for mass deportations. In fact, there are signs being given away at the convention that say MASS DEPORTATIONS NOW.
Mass deportation is a phrase that should make everyone stop short in their tracks.
The exact wording in the platform is this:
The Republican Party is committed to sending Illegal Aliens back home and removing those who have violated our Laws.
The vast majority of our undocumented neighbors are not violent criminals - far less than the percentage of violent criminals among native born Americans, in fact. Most of them are law-abiding people who contribute to our economy. There are over 10 million undocumented people in the United States, most of whom would like nothing more than to be allowed citizenship yet are being forced by our immigration laws to live in the shadows.
I am a Jew. Any Jew is deeply aware of what mass deportation means. It conjures up images of boxcars, although this would be planes, trains or buses. It conjures up images of friends and family hiding those they love in basements and garages. It conjures up images of little children terrified to go to school lest they come home and Mommy or Daddy - or both - are gone forever.
And do not kid yourself. This is exactly what would happen. Whole communities in a state of trauma.
But surely, you’re thinking, nothing like that could ever happen here! Well it’s time to get over that one, because SCOTUS has now given the president immunity from criminal prosecution for anything he considers an “official act.” Forget any legal protection, any Constitutional limits at all to the human rights abuses of tearing people from their homes.
One thing about Donald Trump: he usually tells you what he plans to do. Too often however we just haven’t listened, or taken him seriously. We should absolutely take him seriously now.

The way I see it, much of this dilemma stems from the two-party system of governance. By its very nature, it fosters intense competition and gridlock. The US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Malta all use this system and often spend months, if not over a year, campaigning for the next election rather than dedicating more time and energy to governing for their citizens.
   We are beginning to see revelations of corruption, with citizens shocked by the sweetheart deals, bribery, and other unsavoury activities that the so-called "cream of the crop" engage in.
   Imagine if the resources spent on training and building weapons, espionage, wars, destruction, and subsequent rebuilding were instead directed towards peacemaking and feeding the world.
  There are approximately 12,500 nuclear warheads globally. A single nuclear explosion can destroy a city and kill millions. Considering there are about 4,416 cities with populations over 150,000 globally, this suggests a capacity to destroy urban centres multiple times over.
   Nuclear winter, resulting from widespread firestorms caused by multiple detonations, could inject soot into the stratosphere, blocking sunlight and drastically reducing global temperatures. This could lead to widespread agricultural collapse and famine.
   With this in mind, it wouldn't surprise me if someone is foolish and egotistical enough to initiate a nuclear conflict, which would lead to the death of millions or billions, the collapse of infrastructure, including governments. Civil wars have already begun in many countries unable to govern equitably. More are on the horizon unless we make a drastic shift away from the left/right antagonism and come together for the survival of humanity.

AW: Their bet is that Putin will never deploy nuclear weapons, despite his many threats to do so and recent Russian military drills to deploy tactical nuclear weapons. Given that Russian use of nuclear warheads might well precipitate a nuclear response by the West, the fate of humanity hangs on the restraint and rationality of one man, Putin—a figure who is constantly portrayed by Western media and politicians as an irrational, bloodthirsty monster.
So the human species is supposed to place its hope for survival in someone we’re told is a madman, who leads a state that feels besieged by the most powerful military coalition in history, apparently committed to its demise.
Maybe the madmen aren’t in the Russian government but rather in NATO governments?

CR: It's alarming that war is often used as a tactic to maintain power, as seen with Netanyahu and many past and present U.S. Presidents. There's a real danger that the U.S. and NATO could push Putin too far. The question is, who will push the first domino? Even a single error could ignite a global inferno, leading to the horrific demise of millions, perhaps even billions.

I'm gobsmacked! I keep telling everyone, but they're too distracted to listen ...and anyway it's quite unbelievable that a bunch of thugs could murder and destroy a whole planet and its people .... I mean, this is real life, isn't it?


It is. The greedy humans and their puppet masters have destroyed humanity - with the help of some evil Others - five times already, as far as I know - most recently in Atlantis. I had hoped that with our collective memory from back then, we would do things differently. Blowing up life is madness. Old, belligerent men with one foot on the banana peel and nothing to lose.
The only way I can make sense of it all is to see it from the perspective of the soul, with these earthly experiences expanding it.
Added to that, many people are so stressed out to the point of wobbly sanity;
added to that there are cosmic events that are opening many to their clairs and higher powers;
added to that they then see and hear what is really going on around them;
added to that climate change is decimating life as we know it;
added to that we are facing an economic collapse that has hit Argentina, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Pakistan and Ghana first. We only have to look at the effects in these countries to understand what is unfolding.
I could keep adding to this confluence of disasters - but I won't. We'll keep on keeping on at this second before midnight. I find it heartening how people's activism has freed Julian by putting pressure on politicians - which is why I hope more people will reach out to the most powerful politicians in their country to clearly state their concerns, facts and solutions.

He must step down sooner rather than later.

It signals the end of the US Empire regardless of who takes the top position. The emperor has no clothes which is obvious for all to see except those in the deepest denial including his family and inner circle. It's cruel and the price paid for the genocide of an entire people and other atrocities not all of his making.
