There are around 100–150 active fire incidents in Victoria. A statewide Total Fire Ban remains in force today, Saturday, 10 January, with high fire danger ratings across all districts.
More than 700 firefighters, along with interstate support, are battling these fires. The situation escalated rapidly on 9 January, with over 60 new ignitions reported amid extreme heat of 40–46°C in some areas and strong winds. A cool change late on the 9th helped moderate some threats, but multiple fires remain active, and the risk continues today under the fire ban.
