But periods of upheaval are not only disruption. They can also be invitations to greater consciousness.
When familiar structures become uncertain, we're drawn to look more closely at what remains trustworthy within us. What do we value? Where are we giving our precious time? What kind of person are we becoming? What contribution, however modest, do we wish to make while we're here?
For some, this is a time to reassess. A life that once fit no longer does. Priorities shift. Relationships, work, possessions, habits, ambitions that once consumed enormous energy suddenly matter less — and what falls away makes room for something truer.
For others, turbulent times bring the opposite: a renewed certainty about the path already chosen. Rather than changing course, they recommit — with sharper attention — to the work, the relationships, the creativity, the service, the spiritual purpose that calls to them most deeply.
Perhaps one of the great questions of our time isn't only What is happening to the world? It's also Who am I choosing to become within it?
We don't need to know what the coming years hold to choose how we'll meet them.
Some will simplify. Some will begin again. Some will deepen their spiritual lives. Some will protect what is precious. Some will create, teach, heal, nurture, advocate, grow food, tend the vulnerable, strengthen community — or simply become a steadier, kinder presence for those around them.
There are countless ways to serve a changing world. May we stay flexible enough to change with it.
