As other intelligences have been visiting Earth for far longer than our recorded history, our greatest task is not fear, but discernment. Curiosity with clear eyes. Imagination grounded in wisdom. Rather than assuming danger, we might begin asking what kind of friends we are becoming on this planet — how we treat each other, how we meet the unfamiliar, and whether we’re prepared to greet any cosmic neighbours with respect rather than suspicion.
Instead of reaching for weapons, perhaps we can reach for qualities we would be proud to offer: peace, creativity, cooperation, empathy, and a genuine willingness to learn. A suggested way to explore this is to imagine or role-play what a first and second encounter might look like. These imaginative exercises help open minds gently — especially for the more sceptical thinkers among our family and friends — and encourage conversations grounded in wonder rather than fear.
And who knows? Such encounters may unfold within our lifetimes, and quite soon as is happening with many already. Preparing ourselves inwardly may be one of the most important steps we can take.
Musings:
If you met a non-human intelligence tomorrow, what qualities or gifts from humanity would you feel proud to offer first?
What inner skills — such as intuition, discernment, or calm curiosity — do you think we most need as a species before open contact becomes possible?
How might we each cultivate a culture of friendship rather than fear or derision when discussing UFOs and possible cosmic visitors with others?
