| As Tropical Cyclone Alfred moves towards South East Queensland, NNSW and Mid-NSW and is expected to make landfall around 2am on Friday, businesses are taking proactive measures to mitigate the risks of the predicted destructive winds, heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Many businesses are temporarily shutting down their operations to ensure the safety of employees, customers and property. This includes securing buildings by barricading windows, moving stock to higher ground and suspending services, such as rubbish collection in Brisbane, which was restricted to red bins on 5 March and stopped altogether from 6 March. Smaller businesses are closing indefinitely after 5 March to await the impact of the cyclone, reflecting the general trend to prioritise safety and preparation over normal operations in the face of this rare and potentially historic weather event. Please take all precautions and do not drive through floods. |
