| Left wing, right wing; they are still two wings of the same bird. And if they don't work together, the whole creature is doomed to fall. As a quiet awakening stirs in the hearts of millions, it is drowned out by the thunder of humanity’s darkest impulses: war, torture, rape, hunger and the destruction of life. The world is leaning dangerously towards extremism, with far-right leaders and a left that is fast becoming conservative, clinging to power and heading for destruction. Yet even war is not our greatest threat. The collapse of the Earth’s fragile climate and ecosystems looms larger than any battlefield. It is time — high time — for the wisest and most compassionate voices on both sides to rise above the din and stand together in creative urgency.
