In Alaska, Trump opened up the 1.56 million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain to oil and gas leasing and drilling, signalling the same extractive agenda at home. Abroad, he is steering the United States towards potential war against Venezuela – a nation with the world’s largest proven crude oil reserves (some 303 billion barrels, or about 18% of global totals). Under the pretext of fighting drugs, the real motive is clearly oil, gas and control.
Historically, the United States has repeatedly resorted to military force in pursuit of strategic, economic, or geopolitical interests.
It is time for more of the people to demand a halt to this expansion of killing and theft. Civil society must speak up: stop the wars, stop the resource grab, stop the slide towards a warmongering United States empire.
