Yet people around the world refuse to be silent. Millions of people are marching, striking, donating, resisting and demanding justice. Their courage must not only be honoured, but multiplied. Every new voice, every act of resistance, strengthens the rising tide.
History will not absolve these men — nor should it. They have betrayed their people and put the world at risk. When leaders neglect their duty, communities, movements and citizens must rise up. We must continue to stand with the victims, reject the normalisation of cruelty and bloodshed, and insist that power serves humanity rather than destroying it.
Take heart: the tide of justice is based on countless decisions of conscience that no despot can suppress. Tyrants may cling to thrones of fear and wealth, but solidarity is stronger. Every chant, every banner, every gesture of compassion weakens the walls of domination. And walls always fall.
