China's Three Gorges Dam:
An Environmental Catastrophe?

'Disease. Notably, the floods are affecting Wuhan, the epicenter of the COVID-19 epidemic. The evacuation of hundreds of thousands of residents potentially affects the ability to maintain social distancing, lockdown, and other measures intended to curtail the spread of the virus. Where the evacuees are relocated to is also likely to affect the ability to maintain quarantine behaviour. 

What the Potential Crisis on the Yangtze Means for China and the World​

Prayers for millions of long-suffering Chinese citizens and in other countries beyond as The Three Gorges Dam is still threatening to collapse. Such a tragedy would directly affect up to half a billion people. Unfortunately, it appears it may only be a matter of time for such a disaster to occur. Widespread flooding after months of torrential rains has already displaced millions of people and destroyed crops and livelihoods. 

When construction of the dam officially began in 1994, it was the largest engineering project in China. At the time of its completion in 2006, it was the largest dam structure in the world. The Three Gorges Dam spans the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) near Yichang, Hubei province, China.
