Here's a small sample of the vacuous platitudes from the PM and his heartless cuts and inaction regarding the needs of the Fire Brigade, Drought and Climate Emergencies.
From Twitter: * While he was sending out "thoughts and prayers" to victims of the NSW fires, Scott Morrison forgot to mention NSW Liberals made BUDGET CUTS OF FIRE AND RESCUE NSW (35%) and the Rural Fire Service (70%). That’s 100 firefighters and 50 fire trucks.
* Morrison IGNORED EXPERT WARNINGS and refused to prepare for catastrophic fires. Now he has refused international assistance, saying we are well prepared to fight any fires.
* Glen Innes Severn Council mayor Carol Sparks is asking Prime Minister Scott Morrison to accept that climate change is linked to the unprecedented fires burning in NSW.
* Scott Morrison 'repurposes' $3.9 billion from NDIS servicing the the sick and disabled for drought relief.
* Morrison will only send the army reserves to help 'IF NECESSARY'.... when will it be deemed necessary?
Fire Brigade outlines state and federal cuts to their services
It's 2.30pm and this is the smokey view from my deck in Nambucca Heads. I'm safe, have a grab bag packed and can mostly dry my watering eyes by staying inside with the windows closed. The closest fire is 27 kilometres from me. Please spare a thought for the people and animals caught in the thick of these devastating fires and smoke for weeks and some since September. Readers may know of my '3 And Thens Process' that I apply to every important decision: After the fires cease - And Then? And Then? And Then? Well we remember the Black Saturday Fires in Victoria in 2009. The Black Saturday bushfires killed 173 people, 120 in the Kinglake area alone. Another 414 people were injured. More than 450,000 hectares had burned and 3,500 buildings including more than 2000 houses destroyed. The RSPCA estimated that up to one million wild and domesticated animals died in the disaster. |
