The writers of my recent viewing - Westworld, Orphan Black and Sense8 - seed humanity with seemingly bizarre storylines - or are they? In Westworld S01E10 Ford explains Michelangelo’s painting to Dolores (Goddess of Pain and Sorrow) Westworld is an American science fiction Western television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Produced by HBO, it is based on the 1973 film of the same name (written and directed by Michael Crichton) and to a lesser extent the film's 1976 sequel, Futureworld. The story takes place in Westworld, a fictional, technologically advanced Wild-West-themed amusement park populated by android "hosts". The park caters to high-paying "guests" who may indulge their wildest fantasies within the park without fear of retaliation from the hosts, who are prevented by their programming from harming humans. | 'You see Dolores, Michelangelo did tell a lie. It took 500 years for someone to notice something hidden in plain sight. It was a doctor who noticed the shape of the human brain - the message being that the Divine gift does not come from a higher power but from our own minds. Tell me Dolores, did you find what you were looking for and do you understand who you will need to become if you ever want to leave this place?' Robert Ford |
